The recipe that will make you say, "Grilled Cheese Who?"

For many years, I believed that a plain peanut butter and banana sandwich was the best thing ever invented. But that all changed during one creative hour in my kitchen...

Ladies and Gentlemen, without further ado, I present to you the Sandwich of Dreams-- layers of gooey peanut butter goodness, sweet, ripe banana, and plump, pillow-y raisins snuggled up inside a warm bread blanket and grilled to perfection.

Katie's Sandwich of Dreams

Two slices of whole wheat bread
1 ripe banana
2-4 tablespoons of peanut butter, or another nut butter
raisins
Cooking spray
chocolate chips (optional)

Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat and coat with cooking spray. Spread some peanut butter on one side of each slice of bread. Place banana slices and raisins onto the peanut buttered side of one slice, top with the other slice and press together firmly. Grill the sandwich until golden brown on each side, about 2 minutes per side.

There you have it-- a healthy, delicious meal.

If you want to be really decadent, dip the sandwich slices in soymilk as you eat them :o)

... and to be even MORE decadent, substitute chocolate chips for the raisins. I've never tried this, but I don't see how it could produce a sandwich that is anything less than spectacular!

This sandwich sure does sound dreamy. I don't know what it is about the combination of nut butter and banana, but it is simply amazing. And the addition of raisins, yum! Have you tried almond butter? I used to eat peanut butter almost everyday but know I just can't get enough almond butter.

I bet you would love the Peanut Butter Banana Tortillas with Molassa Sauce from EDBV. It's very similar to your creation here.

Haha, and I love the suggestion to dip it in soymilk!

mmm, that's a Sandwich of Dreams indeed!! it's funny how people only associate SAVORY-style ingredients grilled sandwiches - this post is perfect for proving otherwise!! mmm, I'd love to dip the sandwich in hempmilk - now THAT'S dreamy :0D

I will admit it - I've never had a peanut butter/banana sammich. If I had peanut butter in the house I think I would try your dream sandwich though!

I love toasted peanut butter sandwiches. Even PB & J, which seems so perfect, is made even better when cooked in a frying pan. Though PB&B&R sounds pretty darn good, too.

That does sound delicious! Do you use natural peanut butter? I'm really afraid of the regular Jiffy-type peanut butter I've been eating all my life -- with all the talk about hydrogenated oils, I threw all of mine away! Hahaha. Just curious.

Oh, my yum! I've been known to eat banana sandwiches, actually. Just mash up an over-ripe banana and spread in on bread by itself. I got the idea from an episode of "Gilmore Girls." ;)

Yum! We had this for lunch today (but no raisins). We used cashew butter instead - delicious! We enjoy having a nut butter sandwich with sliced or shredded carrots, so of course we had to have carrots on the side :)

We liked using up a ripe banana and then having it heated made it taste like dessert! For an even more sweet treat, you could add chocolate chips instead of raisins, and then heat it up!

Ok twin, you are officially the cutest thing ever! Your passion is SO contagious!! Love this <33

WAIT -- Aren't you going to show us what you bought at WF??? It's totally a tradition that I just made up ;) Since we all LOOOOVE WF (UNITED!) we should post our items and see how all of our stores differ! (wohh nerrrdy mcnerd over here!)

Anyways, I was trying to figure out how the heck you'd ride your bike while carrying groceries?!?! or was this just a short trip? I need to remember to buy hempmilk but I love my unsweetened almond milk so much, I can't imagine how anything could be better!! (So funny, I'm totally NOT a creature of habit and I loooove trying and doing new and exciting things! (Except for my breakfasts, tehe)). What about it is so sublime??

I hope you had a great day!
