My Life in Cupcakes

By now, some of you may have noticed that I still haven't done the promised "How to Work with Fondant" post. To be honest, I've barely even begun to write it (*hides in corner*). School's just been keeping me so busy that I don't know when I'll have the time for it. But before, in your outrage, you start throwing tomatoes at me, please give me a chance to make a peace offering. (Unless, of course, the aforementioned tomatoes are plump and juicy. In that case, throw away; I'll make spaghetti sauce!)
Now, about this peace offering... Perhaps more cupcakes will do the trick?

This semester, as a fun elective, I'm taking an acting class. Here were the directions for our first assignment:
"You may use any medium-- song, dance, drawing, etc.-- to present to the class a self-portrait. It is your opportunity to share who you are as a person. Be creative."

Pretty open-ended assignment, huh? I love projects where you get to be creative :o). At first, I thought about making a scrapbook. I've blogged before about my passion for scrapbooking (here). But then an even more creative idea came to mind: "All About Me" Cupcakes! So here it is-- my life in cupcakes:

I was born in England.
I've also lived in Philadelphia...
Japan...

China...

and Texas:

From living all over the world, I developed an interest in learning about other cultures and languages. Fittingly, I'm majoring in Spanish.

I'm also very athletic. In high school, I played both varsity soccer and tennis.
I still play tennis, but just for fun.

And I'm a fervent sports-fan, too... especially when it comes to the Dallas Stars!

I'm an avid scrapbooker and love anything to do with arts-n-crafts.

And, after taking a class in high school, I became hooked on Adobe Photoshop.

Helping others is really important to me; right now I have two charity projects-- Project Pillows (more on that here) and AfriCards (more on that in a future post). I also am a volunteer dog-walker two days a week at a local animal shelter.

Oh yeah, and I'm a vegan.

All together now:

To everyone who didn't vote for cupcakes: Don't dispair! I'm still planning on a snack post and a "day-in-the-life" post in the near future.

I love the Texas one for some reason. Send me a Michigan one... heh.

They remind me of merit badges. Screw the 'Official Vegan Sash' I mentioned before... all rewards should be edible.

BTW, did you go to high school in Dallas?

This is amazing, CCV, amazing. I think it could go down in history, and will, as one of the most memorable cupcake posts ANY food blogger has ever done. And as you know, CUPCAKE blogging posts are A-MANY...such a popular topic. SO YOU GO GIRL!

P.S. I have a friend that used to (maybe she still does?) skate on the Dallas Stars ice cheerleading team!

jelymo said...

that's a really adorable way to tell your life story. you could use that to write a children's book!

If I were your prof for this class, this assignment would have made for an A++++! How creative. I bet in the history of the course, no one did something as creative.

I love each and every one of your cupcakes.

You should do a post on your charity work. I would love to hear more about it!

Oh my gosh, Katie, this is the cutest thing I have ever seen in my life!!! You are so creative. And of course I have to comment about how much I love this part of your post: "Oh yeah, and I'm a vegan." Yay! Hopefully there are enough cupcakes to go around your acting class...

And did I mention I used to be an acting major? And that I love Adobe Photoshop too? (It's not on my comp anymore, sadly...and I am def not paying $400 or whatever for it!)

Vegan_Noodle said...

Wow Katie... this post has me mezmerized!! I want to be back in school so I can make my life in cupcakes now.
I have to admit to feeling all good inside about the Texas cupcake (and I'll forgive you for the Stars one). And the angel is such a fitting cupcake to describe you :-)
