I bet Hamlet never had to make such a tough decision!
For a while now, I’ve been debating whether or not to switch over to Wordpress. It seems like Wordpress enables bloggers to be better organized (for example, it offers bloggers the ability to create separate pages and categories, like “About” or “Recipes”). Wordpress also seems to offer more features.
Finally, I'm thinking Wordpress *must* be better, since I don’t know of any bloggers who have switched from Wordpress to Blogger!
.
For those of you who switched from Blogger to Wordpress, was it worth it? Did you lose readers in the switch? Are you happy with your decision?

To everyone else: Would it be a big pain if I switched? Would you remember to update your google readers, or would my blog get lost in oblivion?

I can't help, because I just started with wordpress. Also, I am technologically deficient.
It's a wonder, I figured out how to post!
But, I assure you, that I will follow you wherever you go!
I'd still follow ya! I've kept up with everyone else whose blogs I read before that made the switch. I like Blogger okay, so I doubt I'd ever do it, but I get set in my ways. I'm the same way with the Myspace to Facebook transition (I have both, but Facebook seems to newfangled for me).
I also will follow you regardless!
Good luck with the Wordpress issue. Although I don't have any specific problems with blogger, it's got to be better on Wordpress since everyone goes to it!
yep i made the switch when blogger was giving me waaaay too many problems...and it is better...cleaner and more efficient.
hey if u need any help....i'll be around. email me or something:)
I can't wait to read the comments to this post, because I'm in Blogger and always wonder why people switch.
Just my opinion, but I really prefer Blogger/Blogspot, because that seems to be where about 80 percent of all blogs are. That means I don't have to do lots of different log-ins in order to comment.
And Google seems to always adding great new features.
No, I don't work for Google.
(NOTE TO GOOGLE: If you want to hire me, I'd sell out cheaply.)
I would switch, because I enjoy your blog. I use wordpress, but I avail of a tiny number of the options.
I mean, I would start coming to your new site.
I would for sure follow you CCV!!!
I'm having the same problems...I really want to switch but then what if I hate and and can't go back...or can't figure it out haha
Definitely switch to wordpress. I don't have a blog myself but I feel that the wordpress format is much more reader friendly. I feel that blogger looks somewhat dated and not as clean as wordpress. I love your blog either way though. Keep up the good work!
I have two blogs on blogger (they came before ...but what does she eat) http://reslifeatjuilliard.blogspot.com and http://thebearsinny.blogspot.com. I maintain them in blogger, but I am glad that when I started the veggie site, I did in Wordpress. Visually, I just like Wordpress better. Too, I like getting all the stats info and I seem to get a more in depth experience blogging...if that makes any sense :). Too, pictures seem to be easier to organize as they all get uploaded to a master album and you can be more specific with how pictures are used. In all, I feel like Wordpress is more structured, which I like. But, I do hear out those that don't like the comment conversion that has to happen when you leave comments on blogger from a wordpress account.
Either way, I'll keep followin' ya!
I have been considering the same thing so I am anxious to see the answers!
How do you switch a to a wordpress? I think it would be awsome if you did Katie, but
I'm not sure how or if I could transfer any info from my previous blog to the new site?
You know I'll totally follow you wherever you go, Katie! Your blog is the best! Wordpress or not, :-D
I am thinking about the big switch too - and am nervous - but now WP is so much better.
Do it! I will update my bookmarks :)
I just wanna say I recently found your blog and love it! I've recently cut out meat and dairy. Well, from what I can tell. Every now and then I'm finding something I ate that has a trace of dairy in it. But I'm Trying to read labels more carefully. But since I've done this I've felt so much better! Thanks for all your info girl! Have a great day!
Yes! I say do it! My blog has always been in wordpress but I've had another blog on blogger and it was so much of a hassle!
I will definitely keep reading no matter what. :)
I've been contemplating the same thing...my blog just seems so...messy.
I know when I decided to start up my own blog, I looked at both, and just liked the features/design/interface of Wordpress better. I like that you can run it as more of a website instead of just a blog, since you can add multiple pages. Wordpress has detailed instructions on how to transfer your blog over from other platforms, so that shouldn't be too hard. And I'm sure that anyone who enjoys reading your blog will make the tiny amount of effort required to update their reader/bookmarks. But ultimately, it's up to you. Why not sign up on wordpress and poke around a bit to see if you like it. You can always unsubscribe if it's not your thing.
It'll be interesting to see what all your comments say/ what you decide!
For what it's worth, I'm creating my "new and improved" blog in wordpress. I have wanted to change my blog name and make some changes anyways, and I recently started my "new and improved" blog in wordpress. I feel it's much cleaner, more professional looking, more user-friendly, etc. And it seems MUCH easier to maintain! I had to do SO much work to get html that would allow me to have tabs on my blogspot blog. Anyway! My vote is wordpress!!
Yes, when I first thought of blogging, I tried Blogger & tried WordPress & went WP!!! It is more organized. I'd find you, with whatever you decide to do!
I've used blogger and wordpress quite a bit, and I honestly have to say, neither is better than the other.
Each has its strengths and weaknesses, and it really comes down to what you want to do with your blog.
If you want a recipe archive, then wordpress is easier to handle that, in my opinion. Wordpress doesn't filter out spam comments the way that blogger does, so you'll need to get familiar with plugins.
Also, depending on whether you buy your own webspace or not, you'll need to know a bit of xml editing if you want to get wordpress looking just right.
Good luck with your decision! I'd create a "test" blog on WP to try it out before making any kind of official migration. That way if you don't like it, you can just stay where you are :)
I was in your dilemma when I was considering between blogger and wordpress, so I went with both :)
http://www.vegangrub.com http://www.nosferatofu.blogspot.com/
I feel I get the best of both worlds!
I would follow you even if you switched to rock-carving posting.
Why won't Blogger give us a couple of extra features? I would also like to be able to create different pages.
I do prefer Wordpress. There are actually ways that you can forward your blog traffic from blogger to another site, so that's probably not an issue. You can also use feedburner to forward your subscribers so they probably won't even need to re-add you. I like wordpress because it has more plugins and you can really customize it to be exactly what you want. They also have cool layouts. If you ever need help switching over or getting feeds set up just let me know... I'm pretty quick with computers/web stuff bc I used to be a software engineer at an internet startup :)
I wouldn't mind if you switched to Wordpress. It would just improve CCV! I'm starting to regret making my blog on blogger myself!
I've been pondering the same question. I'm thinking, what are we waiting for?!!!
I would update m google reader in a heartbeat! I have wordpress and I absolutely love it! I switched from blogger and I am soooo thankful I did! it is o much more user-friendly and easier to use, I am also much more organzied this way =)
do it! i like wordpress so much better but am too lazy to make the switch myself! i highly doubt ppl will forget about your blog and forget to update their readers -- i know i wouldn't forget b/c i <3 reading your posts!!! and i also think the ccv blog would be much improved in wordpress. it would be fun if you could have little side pages!
i will follow you... follow you wherever you may go...
ok, it doesn't take that much to change my google reader :) I too wanted to do some different pages, and i got some suggestions from lindsay (life according to the mrs. lc), there are templates out there to work from if you wanted to do such things in blogger
i use wordpress so i say GO FOR IT 100%! the only thing is that since i host wordpress on my own server and whatnot, i'm not sure how wordpress.com works in terms of customization and stuff, but i'm sure you can figure it out because you're a smart cookie! i'm ultra picky about my layout so i hand-coded it, but there are a billion other pre-made layouts. that said, blogger does seem more connected with other blogs, so if you're up for the challenge i say go for it! you won't lose readers, i promise? :P
xoxo
Do it do it do it! All ya gotta do is post on here to let us know when you make the change - we will all happily follow you to your new home :o)
I will follow you...follow you wherever you may go!
I've worked with both formats previously, and MUCH prefer wordpress.
I've been contemplating a switch as well, so I'll be interested to see what conclusion you come to.
i love ur new site chocolate covered katie! ;)
It would definitely not be a pain for us readers. I think you can keep it so both sites are updatef for awhile, but I'm not sure.
I'll follow you too no matter where you go. I had this same decision to make when my old blog died and was beyond any kind of repair. I actually started a wordpress blog (I believe it's still there somewhere) and transferred all my stuff over.
But the template was impossible to work with, you had to pay money for things that you get free with blogger (like a custom template). It took me forever to even try and figure out how to post so in the end I just started another one with blogger. I know blogger has some issues but I think wordpress probably has some too (just different ones!)
I am all for switching to wordpress. Looks like most of your readers agree. ;-)
I'd say do it!
IM not loving my WP but am too lazy to change...the pain I know better than the pain I dont perhaps?
dont be me.
I'd do WP - when I began creating my blog I did it on blogger and I found it to be such a pain in the butt, much less pretty visually, less features, and it's just a pain - like sometimes not letting you post, etc. I've never had any of these problems on WP and you can even create pages within pages on WP which is so cool.
I've been very happy with Wordpress. No major complaints.
i am kinda lazy and often forget to update my links....but i couldn't forget about you, ccv, so i would definitely follow you over to wordpress!
i'm from the school that if it ain't broke, don't fix it. conversely so, i'm always up for a new adventure as well. you gots to do what you gots to do girl, and if switching will make you happy, then go for it. i'll still be a hardcore ccv follower.
I thought Wordpress seemed nice. I haven't made the switch yet, but have considered it a million times.
NO ONE WILL FORGET YOU, and it will give you the opportunity to change your name. All you do is leave this blog up for a little while with directions to change the links. You're loved!
ha. That's funny. I've been working on a wordpress switch for the past few days. I think it's more professional and streamlined looking. And you can create tabs for different pages within your blog-easy!
I don't think it would be a pain, everyone would just move on over!
lol see you at wordpress?
I would switch again in a heartbeat. I just made the switch last month and if anything my traffic has increased. It is a little bit of a pain to make the initial move but WP is SO SO SO much nicer and easier to use than Blogger. Go for it, we'll follow you anywhere :)
katie!!!!
Ive been thinking about doing the same thing...but i feel like i would lose all of my readers too!!!
I WOULD DEF STILL FOLLOW YOU!!.. soo easy is google reader!!
whatever you choose... we'll be here!!!
